Ava and Peter’s marriage wasn’t perfect. Despite the ups and downs, Ava found it hard to leave him until she discovered he had cheated on her.
One night, Peter came home very late, tired and sweaty, claiming he was working on a project. But since he had been distant lately, Ava knew he wasn’t being honest. Peter wished his wife understood his side of the story.
The next day, Ava decided to follow him, even though it felt strange. She was nervous and unsure about her decision. She tried to convince herself to trust her husband more, but it wasn’t easy. She wanted to know for sure if her gut feeling was right.
1. When Peter stopped at a house instead of going to his office, Ava felt a knot in her stomach.
2. What happened next was predictable. Ava decided to confront Peter, and she did so when he came home, once again much later than he used to.
3. Unfortunately, Peter quickly blamed Ava for his affair, saying she was distant and unsupportive.
4. Ava was shocked by what she was hearing and asked Martha if she knew Peter was cheating.
5. With shaky legs, Ava decided to follow him. When she got there, she saw Martha just around one of the aisles.
6. Ava remembered all the tears and sorrow she felt after learning about Peter’s death.
When Peter stopped at a house instead of going to his office, Ava felt a sinking feeling in her stomach.
A friendly-looking woman opened the door and hugged Peter. After chatting for a few minutes, he went inside with her.
Ava’s world fell apart. She realized that Peter’s recent lack of interest in her was because he was having an affair.
Heartbroken, she thought about the man she had married, but in that moment, he felt like a stranger to her.
As expected, Ava decided to confront Peter when he came home, again much later than he used to.
“Are you sleeping with that woman?” Ava asked, hoping for a different answer than what she feared. But Peter didn’t deny it. He admitted that what started as a fling had turned into something more. He confessed that he had fallen in love with the other woman, but he insisted that he still had feelings for Ava.
Sadly, Peter quickly blamed Ava for his affair, saying she was cold and unsupportive.
His words cut deep, and it was too much for Ava. When he stopped talking, she said, “Peter, I want a divorce.”
But Peter didn’t agree. Even though he loved someone else, he didn’t want to divorce Ava. He started swearing, yelling, and insisted he would never sign the divorce papers.
That night, Ava cried uncontrollably. She felt trapped, unable to see a way out. She couldn’t imagine living with Peter, knowing he had feelings for another woman. As she lay there with tears on her pillow, she heard Peter’s footsteps and a door closing.
The next morning, Peter wasn’t in their bed. When she checked the house, he was gone. Then her eyes fell on the safe. She felt the urge to open it, but it was empty. His passport, the money, the jewelry—everything was gone.
She got in the car and drove to Peter’s mother’s house, feeling confused. Martha was at the door, blaming Ava for Peter’s decision to leave. “None of this would have happened if it weren’t for your ridiculous demand for a divorce,” Martha cried. “You ruined your marriage and drove my son away.”
Ava couldn’t believe what she was hearing and asked Martha if she knew that Peter had been cheating.
“So what?” Martha replied. “You shouldn’t have told him you wanted a divorce. This is all your fault.”
Realizing that Martha wasn’t going to help, Ava went back home. The house felt strange and empty, as if nothing there had ever really belonged to her. It felt like someone had broken into her own home.
Days passed, and there was still no sign of Peter. He hadn’t replied to any of Ava’s emails, and his phone was turned off. She was desperate for closure and began to lose hope that she would ever see him again.
While flipping through TV channels, Ava was shocked to see the news. Peter’s name appeared on the list of victims of a plane crash, along with his lover’s. She was stunned by the revelation—Peter had died. As she tried to process this, there was a knock at the door. It was Martha, crying and blaming Ava for her son’s death.
Now, two years after the tragic event, Ava moved to a nearby city for a fresh start. She never expected her life to change again, but one quiet afternoon, she decided to go grocery shopping.
As she was reading the label of a product she was unsure about, she noticed a familiar face. Her heart raced when she saw that the man next to her looked just like Peter. She called out, “Peter,” but the man didn’t respond. The resemblance was too strong to be just a coincidence.
With her legs trembling, she decided to follow him, and just around one of the aisles, she saw Martha. Ava was completely shocked. How could this be real? When she called out Peter’s name, he turned and looked at her. “I can explain everything,” he said, looking directly into her eyes.
He begged Ava to get into his car so he could tell her the whole story. Hesitantly, she agreed. As the three of them drove to Peter’s house, he explained to Ava that while his lover had died in the plane crash, he had survived. He used the money he had taken from her to create a new identity. He also helped his mother get tickets so she could support him in starting a new life.

A few days later, Martha went to the basement. She told Ava that if she promised not to harm Peter, she could leave. Ava agreed not to tell anyone Peter was still alive; she just wanted to go home and wasn’t interested in Peter anymore.
Martha let Ava go because she was worried her son would get into trouble if Ava stayed around.
Ava quickly started Peter’s car and drove as fast as she could, but Martha chased after her and told her to get out and walk to the nearest road. Unfortunately, Ava was too weak to walk far and passed out while driving, crashing into a tree. She woke up in a hospital bed, where an officer questioned her about the accident and Peter. They had tracked Peter down using the car’s license plate.
“He’s been living under a new identity since the so-called plane crash,” Officer Daniels told Ava. “We’re still trying to piece everything together.”
She told the officer everything she knew and made it clear that she truly believed Peter had died in the plane crash.
Her information led to Peter’s arrest.
“Although it’s a complicated case, your testimony is very helpful,” the officer said. “Martha is being investigated for her role in helping Peter, and George might go to jail for his actions.”
Ava felt relieved. Finally, she could leave the past behind and start a new chapter in her life.
